Restaurant Name: KC’s
Restaurant Type: Fish and Chips – take away.
Location: Douglas, Cork
Price Range: Cheap
Description: I am trying lately to stay away from take away and fast food so you won’t often find a review of a chipper here but I think KC’s deserves a special mention. To me this is the BEST chipper I have ever gotten food from. It is takeaway only and its popularity is evident from the Bridgestone awards on the wall outside and the queue which always seems to be out the door and down the street. The food is excellent quality for a take away but it is still very cheap. They have a much wider range on their menu than your regular chipper, many items which are unique to KC’s. The portions are very generous. I highly recommend you try some of their pitas and burgers. Delightful!

I have made a reservation in La Gourmandise for a special occasion in a few weeks. I am really looking forward to it as I have heard only great things about the place. I would love to hear more opinions if anyone has any? I will post my review in due course.

Name: Jacques Restaurant
Location: Cork City Centre, around the corner from the G.P.O
Food Type: European
Price Range: Medium – High
Rating: 5/5
Description: Jacques is one of those places I like to save for special occasions. It is small; in a cosy intimate kind of way, clean, bright (despite the fact that there are no windows) and the food is delicious. They serve very well presented, high quality food. They provide an excellent variety of starters, main dishes and wines for all tastes. I find them to be an exceedingly accommodating when it comes to making reservations, if they can fit you in at all, they will. I never feel rushed when I am in their. In fact for an anniversary once, we were the last couple there, everyone else was gone, and they were cleaning up around us and yet were more than happy for us to take out time and finish our wine. I loved that evening in Jacques and I am sure if you go there you will have a wonderful experience too. I highly recommend it. Full marks!

Name: Eco’s
Location: Douglas Cork
Food Type: Mixed / European
Price Range: Mid – High
Rating: 3/5
Description: Eco’s restaurant located in Douglas, Cork seems to be a difficult restaurant to get a table in. This is for two reasons that I can see. Firstly, the place is quite small with not many tables and secondly the food is very good and thus the place is quite popular, especially on weekends and a booking is almost always required. I personally tend not to bother making bookings and just chance my arm that a place will have a table when I go there. So it took a few attempts for Eco’s to finally have an opening. And they were quite accommodating and seated us pretty quickly, although the seating was a little cramped, as they had tried to squeeze too many tables and chairs into too small a space.
The menu was nicely varied so there was something for most tastes. I had the pan fried Cajun mushrooms for starters which were delicious and the Cajun salmon for main course (I was in a Cajun mood that night apparently!) The Fish itself was very good, but the accompanying potato and vegetable dishes were unsuited to the dish and were a little bland. The wine was a lovely Shiraz, which didn’t arrive until the main course which was unusual but it was a good thing as it was not all finished by the end of the meal so we were able to sit back and enjoy the rest after eating.
The price isn’t the cheapest place to eat in Douglas, but it is definitely worth the money for the quality of food, if only they had a little more floor space and if you didn’t always have to book in advance.

Rating: 1 out of 10
Price Range: Cheap
Decor: Basic / None , Canteen
Description: Yuk, It looks bad. It tastes bad, It smells bad. Although it is cheap it is in my opinion expensive for the quality you get. DO NOT eat there if you have any regard for what you put in your mouth. There are plenty other nice places on the UCC Campus to eat. Go to one of those instead.

Name: Lal Quila
Location: Douglas, Cork
Food Type: Indian
Rating: 5/5
Price Range:
Lunch: Cheap
Dinner: Reasonable
Description: This Indian restaurant located in Douglas just outside cork city is in my opinion the best Indian restaurant in all Cork County. The decor is simple but lovely. Not overly in your face trying to be Indian authentic looking but still retains an Indian feel while looking clean and modern at the same time.
The food is the best presented for an Indian restaurant in Cork I have come across and the starts are always a delight. The wine list is good and I love their house red.
Lal Quila also has one of the best value lunch deals in the city. You get a well presented, excellent three course lunch for an extremely reasonable price.
The only negative thing I can say about it is that the deserts are not great but then again I have always been so satisfied with the main meal that I have never felt like I needed a desert afterwards.
I highly recommend this place for a fabulous sit down Indian.
Note: This restaurant does not offer takeaway.

I am feeling bad lately, frustrated. The sun is out and the world seems full of promise and fun things to do. I want to GO somewhere, I want to DO something!…But I can’t, I have research and programming work to do, in order to get my Masters and to be seen to be earning the funding money.
I am struggling with the work, not the amount of work, but with the work itself, I just cant seem to get the code working and I just cant seem to be prepared for my weekly meetings with my supervisor and spend every Sunday night and Monday freaking out and worrying and scrambling to get things working, then being very stressed, annoyed and worried when it’s not all working out, then trying to come up with excuses not to attend my meeting and to avoid the work.
It is on one of those occasions that I am sitting here now, after avoiding my meeting for another week, feeling bad and dreading next weeks meeting already… I just want to leave it all behind and enjoy myself, but I know it would be the wrong thing to do….That Spring feeling…who needs it!
