Food Review: Eco’s

Name: Eco’s

Location: Douglas Cork

Food Type: Mixed / European

Price Range: MidHigh

Rating: 3/5

Description: Eco’s restaurant located in Douglas, Cork seems to be a difficult restaurant to get a table in. This is for two reasons that I can see. Firstly, the place is quite small with not many tables and secondly the food is very good and thus the place is quite popular, especially on weekends and a booking is almost always required. I personally tend not to bother making bookings and just chance my arm that a place will have a table when I go there. So it took a few attempts for Eco’s to finally have an opening. And they were quite accommodating and seated us pretty quickly, although the seating was a little cramped, as they had tried to squeeze too many tables and chairs into too small a space.

The menu was nicely varied so there was something for most tastes. I had the pan fried Cajun mushrooms for starters which were delicious and the Cajun salmon for main course (I was in a Cajun mood that night apparently!) The Fish itself was very good, but the accompanying potato and vegetable dishes were unsuited to the dish and were a little bland. The wine was a lovely Shiraz, which didn’t arrive until the main course which was unusual but it was a good thing as it was not all finished by the end of the meal so we were able to sit back and enjoy the rest after eating.

The price isn’t the cheapest place to eat in Douglas, but it is definitely worth the money for the quality of food, if only they had a little more floor space and if you didn’t always have to book in advance.
